"How do I decide between a mini session and a full session?"
Hey y'all! With my upcoming travel dates this summer including options for both mini sessions and full sessions, I'm going to highlight differences between the two, which will (hopefully) make it easier to choose which kind of session fits you best! Everyone has different needs, and I want you to have the best possible experience during your next photo session. Let's get started!
First, what's a mini session, and what's a full session?
- A mini session is a photo session that photographers offer that are shorter in duration than regular sessions. They are often 15-30 minutes of shooting, booked back-to-back in one day (I call it a "mini marathon"), and a smaller investment than a regular session. They are most often booked by families, but can be suitable for couples, solo portraits, or even a quick round of business headshots.
- Regular sessions are much longer in duration (typically 45 minutes-2 hours with me), are a larger investment, and more customized. Because these are longer sessions, more photos will be delivered in your final gallery.
It's important to know that most photographers (including myself) only offer mini sessions on specific "mini session marathon" days, as opposed to there being more booking options for regular sessions typically. These days often fall near special occasions, (e.i. Christmas, Mother's Day, etc.).
So, let's chat about how this effects YOU! Here are 2 lists for you to think about:
You may want to book a mini session if you:
- Have limited time and availability.
- Want your date and location decided for you by your photographer.
- Have young children with limited attention spans.
- Aren't very into big photo sessions, but still want to document life annually, bi-annually, etc.
- Want to surprise someone with a thoughtful gift that keeps on giving!
- Have a more limited budget, but still value professional photos of you and your family.
- Need a faster turnaround time for your gallery for an upcoming occasion or event (fewer photos = less time spent editing).
You may want to invest in a full session if you:
- Want to have the time and space to create a more personal experience (at home session/choosing your location, allowing time for breaks/play for littles when needed, etc.).
- Want photos in multiple outfits.
- Want a complete business branding session.
- Haven't had professional pictures taken in a long time.
- Are celebrating a major life event (newly engaged, graduating high school, celebrating a new addition to your family, etc.)
- Are okay with a slightly slower turnaround time for your gallery to receive more of the final product.
Though this isn't a complete list of possible circumstances, I hope it helps you decide on what your next session should be! Cheers!
